You need permission to edit assets.
An asset hierarchy groups related assets under a parent. For example, you can set an HVAC system as the parent and its units as child assets. A child asset can have its own children, so you can build several levels.

Set a parent asset

1

Open the asset form

In the sidebar, under Resources, click Assets. Open the asset that should become the child, then click Edit in the actions menu.
2

Select the parent

Under Asset Hierarchy, open Parent Asset and select the parent. The form shows the full path to the selected parent.
3

Save

Click Update Asset.
To make the asset top-level again, click Clear next to Parent Asset, then save. You can’t select the asset itself or any of its own children as its parent. This prevents loops in the hierarchy.

View the hierarchy

  • On the Assets page, a parent asset row has an arrow. Click it to expand the row and show its child assets.
  • Use the Hierarchy filter to show Parent Assets Only, Child Assets Only, or Standalone Only assets.
  • On an asset’s Details tab, Location & Assignment shows its Parent Asset and Sub-Assets.

Delete a parent asset

Deleting a parent asset also deletes all of its child assets. The delete dialog shows how many child assets are affected. To keep the child assets, clear or change their parent first.
