Required role: any role that can view members. Without it, you see an access denied message.
Settings → Roles & Permissions is a read-only reference. It shows who can view, create, edit, and delete records across the Education app, based on Relyant’s built-in role definitions. To change what a role can do, edit the role in Settings → Members in the main Relyant dashboard.

Read the matrix

The Education permission breakdown table lists each resource in a row and each role in a column. Badges show the allowed actions:
  • V = View
  • C = Create
  • E = Edit
  • D = Delete (shown in red)
A dash means the role has no access to that resource.

Built-in roles

The page labels the built-in member role as Teacher. Guardian is the role parents get when you add them to a student, and it’s what they use in the parent portal. Guardians only see their own linked children.

Attendance is restricted to assigned classes

Teachers, requesters, and custom roles can only record or edit attendance for classes they’re actively assigned to. Owners and admins can record attendance for any class.

Wellbeing permissions

Support notes and behaviour have their own rows in the Education roles matrix, under Wellbeing, so they no longer depend on student permissions. You can change them for your school on the Roles tab of Roles & Permissions. Edit permission alone doesn’t let someone change any record. They also need to be its author or an assignee, or be an owner, admin, or Academic admin. Only the author and those leaders can delete a record. Wellbeing settings covers alerts, templates, labels, and import and export.

Other roles

  • Super Admins have full access to every resource.
  • Deactivated members have no access.
  • Custom roles have whatever permissions were granted when they were created.
The Education Settings area itself only appears for roles that can create students, which by default means Owners, Admins, and Super Admins.
