Required role: Owner or Admin to create, edit, archive, or delete years. Teachers and requesters can view years but can’t change them.
An academic year is the container for your classes, enrollments, and attendance. Create one before you set up classes or enroll students. Go to Settings → Academic Years to manage them.

The academic years list

The list shows every year with its Name, Status, Start Date, and End Date. Click a column header to sort.

Create an academic year

1

Start a new year

Go to Settings → Academic Years and click New Year.
2

Enter the details

Enter a Name (for example, 2026-2027), a Start date, and an End date.
3

Add terms (optional)

Under Terms, add periods such as Q1 or Semester 1, each with its own start and end date.
4

Save

Save the year. It appears in the list and in the academic year switcher.

Manage a year

Click a year to open it. The page has three tabs:
  • Details — shows the name, start and end dates, and the year’s terms. Click Add term to add a term with a Name, Sequence, Start date, and End date. Use the pencil and trash icons to edit or delete a term.
  • Classes — lists the year’s classes with their grade and student count. Filter by Grade and click a class to open it.
  • Transition — copies students or classes from another year into this one. See Year-end transition.
Use Edit to change the year’s name or dates. Archive and Delete are in the overflow menu.

Archive a year

Archiving closes the year’s open enrollments and hides it from lists. Before you confirm, the dialog shows a preview of the year’s Classes, Enrollments, and Open Enrollments.
1

Open the archive dialog

In the list, click Archive on the year’s row, or open the year and choose Archive from the overflow menu.
2

Review and confirm

Check the classes and enrollments in the preview, then confirm. You see Year archived and enrolments closed.
To restore an archived year, click Unarchive in the same places.

Delete a year

Deleting removes the year and its terms. You can only delete a year that has no classes, enrollments, or attendance records. For a year that’s already in use, archive it instead.

Year-end transition

Move students and classes into the next academic year.
