You can capture a meeting in Scribe in two ways: record it live, or upload a pre-recorded audio file. Either way, Scribe transcribes the audio, labels the speakers, and writes a summary.
Recording reminder: Tell all attendees that the session will be recorded before you start.

Record a meeting live

1

Start a new note

In the sidebar, click New note. You can also click Instant record on Home, or start from a calendar meeting.
2

Add attendees (optional)

Click Add attendees and search for students, parents, or staff. To add someone outside your organization, enter their name under External / Guest and click Add external attendee.
3

Click Transcribe

Click Transcribe. If your browser asks, allow microphone access.
4

Confirm the language

In the Instant record prompt, keep Auto-detect (multilingual) (recommended), or choose Single language if the whole meeting is in one language. Click Record and transcribe.
5

Record the meeting

A draft transcript appears live while you record. The recording bar has a microphone button, Pause, and Stop. Click the microphone button to switch microphones. To throw the recording away, expand the live transcript and click Discard.
6

Stop the recording

Click Stop. Scribe processes the audio and shows its progress, from transcribing to writing your summary.
For in-person meetings, place the device centrally between the speakers. To skip the language prompt next time, check Don’t ask this again.
After you stop, Scribe writes the summary from the live transcript straight away. It then runs a second, more accurate transcription pass. While it runs, you see Improving transcript…, and the Final transcript replaces the Draft transcript when it’s ready. Your summary stays as it is. If the second pass stalls, the note tells you so and offers Retry. If the recording has no speech, Scribe tells you to check that the right microphone is selected and not muted.

Start from a calendar meeting

If you connect your calendar, Scribe can start a note from a meeting with its title, time, and attendees already filled in.
  • On Home, under Today, click Take notes or Record next to a meeting.
  • When a calendar meeting with a video link starts, a banner offers Start recording. Click it to open a new recording for that meeting.

Upload an audio file

1

Start an upload

On Home, click Upload & transcribe, or click Upload audio in a new note.
2

Add the recording

In the Upload & transcribe dialog, drag and drop the file, or click browse to select it.
3

Choose the language and upload

Under Transcription language, pick Auto-detect (multilingual) or Single language, then click Upload & transcribe. Scribe uploads the file, transcribes it, and writes the summary.
Audio files can be up to 40 MB. In-app recordings are compressed, so this covers well over two hours of recording.

Continue or discard a recording

  • To add more audio to an existing note, click Continue recording. The new transcript is appended to the same note.
  • To throw away a recording without processing it, click Discard in the live transcript header and confirm Discard recording.

Record with the desktop app

Scribe Desktop for Mac and Windows records the call’s audio from Zoom, Meet, or Teams alongside your microphone. Download it from Preferences, or click Download for Mac or Download for Windows next to the greeting on the Scribe home page.
  • Set up Scribe: on first launch, enable Microphone and, on Mac, Meeting audio. Without meeting audio, Scribe records only your microphone, and the microphone button shows an amber dot.
  • You and the call: in the live transcript, your own voice appears on the right and the call on the left. In the final transcript, Scribe names your voice after you. It doesn’t for in-person meetings or when several people share your microphone.
  • Floating recorder: when you switch to your meeting app during a recording, a small panel stays on top of it. It shows the elapsed time, pause and stop buttons, and the latest live transcript. Type in Quick note… to add a timestamped line to your notes.
  • Meeting detection: when a Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or Webex meeting opens, Scribe shows a Start recording banner, and a notification if Scribe isn’t in front. Turn this off in Preferences.
  • Scribe only: the desktop app shows only Scribe. On other pages it opens, such as account settings, click Scribe in the top bar to go back.
