Web POS is the register you use for walk-up sales. It runs in the browser on a desktop, tablet, or phone. Every sale you complete becomes a Point of Sale order in Orders.
Requirements: the Point of Sale feature must be turned on, and your role needs read access to orders. You also need at least one storage location in Inventory.

Ring up a sale

1

Open the register

In the sidebar, under Sell, click Web POS.
2

Choose a storage location

If your organization has more than one storage location, pick the one you’re selling from. The register shows products and stock for that location only. You can switch later from the location menu at the top of the cart.
3

Add products

Click a product to add it to the cart. For items with variants, pick the variant first. Search by name or scan a barcode to find items quickly. Scanning a variant’s own barcode adds that variant straight to the cart. You can’t add more units than are in stock at the location.
4

Add a customer (optional)

In the cart, click Add customer. Search for an existing customer or click Add new customer. Skip this for a walk-in sale.
5

Add a discount or charge (optional)

Add a custom line with a description and an amount. Use a negative amount for a discount, for example -5.00.
6

Click Checkout

If your organization has checkout questions for Point of Sale, answer them on the Order Details step, then click Continue.
7

Take payment

On Select Payment, enter a Reference Number if you have one (for example a card terminal reference), then choose a payment method:
  • Cash — enter the Cash Received. The register shows the change due. Click Complete Order.
  • Other methods — the order completes as soon as you pick the method.
  • Payment gateway (such as HitPay) — the register shows a QR code for the customer to scan with their phone, plus a payment link you can copy. The order completes automatically once the payment is received.
8

Finish the sale

The Order Complete screen shows the total and any change due. From here you can click Print Receipt, enter an email address and click Send Receipt by Email, click View Order, or click New Order to clear the cart.
The cart is kept for each storage location while your browser session is open, so you can switch tabs without losing a sale in progress. Changing the location clears the cart.

How stock is affected

What happens to stock depends on the Inventory Deduction setting in Settings → Point of Sale:

Payment methods at the register

The register offers the payment methods turned on for POS in Settings → Payments, plus any connected payment provider that has Web POS turned on. If none are set up, checkout shows a message asking you to add payment methods.
