# Inventory overview

> Track inventory items and their stock levels across storage locations

**Inventory** in Stock & Inventory tracks the items your organization keeps in stock, such as parts, supplies, tools, and merchandise. Stock is held per storage location, and every change is recorded in the inventory logs.

To open it, in the left sidebar, click **Inventory** under **Stock**.

## Key concepts

| Concept | Description |
| - | - |
| **Item** | Something you track, such as printer toner or AA batteries. Each item has a type: **Part**, **Supply**, **Material**, **Tool**, or **Merchandise**. |
| **Storage location** | A storeroom, bin, shelf, cabinet, or warehouse where stock is kept. You set these up in [Inventory settings](https://docs.relyant.app/stock/settings.md#inventory). |
| **Stock level** | The quantity on hand at each location. The item's total is the sum across locations. |
| **Minimum** | The level at which a location counts as low stock. Each item has a default minimum, and you can override it per location. |
| **Variant** | A version of an item, such as a size or colour. Items with variants track stock and price per variant. |
| **Adjustment** | A manual change to stock, such as after a recount. Your organization can require adjustments to be approved first. |

## Inventory tabs

| Tab | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Items** | All inventory items, with category, type, quantity, unit cost, and selling price |
| **Reports** | Stock activity for a period, filterable by location and category, with CSV export |
| **Categories** | Item categories |
| **Transfers** | Transfer requests between locations. Only shown when transfers need confirmation. |
| **Adjustments** | **Inventory Logs** and, when approval is required, **Adjustment Approvals** |

## Read the Quantity column

The **Quantity** column on the **Items** tab shows:

* The total on hand and the item's default minimum (for example, `min 5`).
* One line per storage location, with that location's stock and its own minimum when one applies.
* A red warning icon when any location is at or below its minimum.

If an item is stocked in many locations, the column shows the first few and a **+N more** note. Open the item to see every location.

Items with variants show their selling price as a range, from the lowest to the highest variant price.

> Members and requesters can view inventory. Adding, editing, adjusting, and transferring stock needs the Owner or Admin role, or a custom role with those inventory permissions.
