# Connect an AI assistant

> Connect Claude or another MCP-compatible AI assistant to Relyant with read-only access to your workspace

You can connect Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI assistants that support remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to Relyant. Once connected, you can ask your assistant questions about your workspace, such as "Which work orders are overdue?" or "What rooms are booked tomorrow morning?"

> [!NOTE]
>
> Your organization must have the **AI Chat Assistant** add-on turned on. If it's off, the assistant can connect but can't load any Relyant tools.

## What your assistant can do

The connection is **read-only**. Your assistant can look up, list, and report on data, but it can't create, edit, approve, or delete anything in Relyant.

What it can read depends on the apps your organization has turned on:

| Area | Examples |
| - | - |
| **Facilities & operations** (always available) | Work orders, work requests, room and asset bookings, room availability, transport requests, stock levels, supply requests, purchase requests, and purchase orders |
| **Education** | Students, classes, rosters, activities, tasks, and attendance, behavior, and student reports |
| **HRIS** | Recognitions, balances, and leaderboards |
| **Scribe** | Meetings |
| **Point of Sale** | POS and shop orders, payments, and sales reports |

## Access and permissions

* Your assistant acts as you. It can only see what your role lets you see in Relyant, and never more.
* Access is limited to your organization. If you belong to more than one organization, the assistant uses the organization you most recently had open in Relyant.
* Each lookup your assistant makes is recorded in your organization's audit log.

## Connect Claude

**1. Add a custom connector**

In Claude, open **Settings** > **Connectors** and add a custom connector.

**2. Enter the server URL**

Use your Relyant address followed by `/api/mcp`:

```
https://on.relyant.app/api/mcp
```

**3. Sign in to Relyant**

When Claude opens Relyant, sign in with your usual Relyant account.

**4. Approve access**

Review the consent screen and click **Approve**.

For Claude Code, run:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http relyant https://on.relyant.app/api/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp` in Claude Code and choose to authenticate. Other assistants that support remote MCP servers connect the same way with the same URL.

## The consent screen

The first time you connect an assistant, Relyant shows a consent screen titled "*Assistant name* wants to connect to Relyant". It explains that the assistant will have read-only access and lists what it's asking for:

* **Confirm your identity**
* **See your basic profile (name)**
* **See your email address**
* **Keep access until you disconnect it**

Click **Approve** to finish connecting, or **Deny** to cancel. You only see this screen once for each assistant.

> [!TIP]
>
> To stop an assistant from reading your Relyant data, remove the Relyant connector in your assistant's settings.
