# Create a work order

> Create a new maintenance task in Relyant

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need permission to create work orders. **Owners**, **Admins**, and **Members** have it by default.

## Steps

**1. Go to work orders**

In the sidebar, under **Maintenance**, click **Work Orders**.

**2. Open the form**

Click **Create Work Order**.

**3. Enter a title and description**

Type a short title in the **Issue title...** field. This is the only required field. Add more context in the **Add description...** field.

**4. Set the details**

Use the buttons below the description to set the rest of the work order:

| Button | What it sets |
| - | - |
| **Location** | Where the work is needed. Optional. |
| **Asset** | The asset that needs work. Optional. If you pick a location first, the list shows assets at that location and assets with no location. |
| **Photo**, **Video**, **Attach** | Up to 5 files, such as photos of the problem |
| Priority | **Low**, **Medium**, or **High**. Defaults to **Medium**. |
| **Category** | The type of work, from your work order categories |
| **Assignee** | The member responsible for the work |

If the asset you pick has a location, Relyant sets the location from the asset and locks it.

**5. Add dates (optional)**

Open the more options menu to choose **Set start date**, **Set end date**, or **Set due date**. Each one offers quick picks, such as **Tomorrow**, **End of this week**, or **In one week**, or **Custom...** to pick a date. Start and end dates can include a time.

In the same menu, select **Preventive maintenance** to mark the work order as preventive. It then shows a **PM** badge.

**6. Create**

Click **Create Work Order**. The work order starts with **Open** status. If you assigned someone, they get an email notification.

> [!TIP]
>
> You can also create a work order from an asset, a location booking, or an asset booking. Relyant fills in and locks the related asset or location, and links the work order to that record.

Files are limited to 10 MB each. Supported types are JPG, PNG, GIF, and WebP images, MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV videos, PDFs, and Word and Excel documents.

## Edit a work order

Open the work order and click **Edit**. Change any field, then click **Update Work Order**. You need permission to update work orders.

## Delete a work order

Open the work order, open the more actions menu, and click **Delete**. You can also delete work orders from the row menu in the list, or select several rows to delete them in bulk. Only **Owners** and **Admins** can delete work orders. Deleting can't be undone.
