# Add files and notes

> Attach files, add notes, and link external resources to a work order

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need permission to update work orders. **Owners**, **Admins**, and **Members** have it by default.

Notes and files are added through the **Update Status** dialog. You don't have to change the status to add them.

## Add a note or file

**1. Open the work order**

In the sidebar, under **Maintenance**, click **Work Orders**, then click the work order.

**2. Open the update dialog**

Click **Update Status**. You can also click **Add Files** in the **Files** card.

**3. Write a note**

Type in the **Notes** field, for example a progress update or an observation.

**4. Attach files**

Click **Take Photo** or **Record Video** to use your device's camera, or **Browse Files** to pick files from your device.

**5. Save**

Leave **New Status** as it is, or pick a new one. Then click **Update Status**.

Notes appear under **Comments**, below the work order's **Activity** log. Each comment shows your name, the time, the status the work order had when you left it, and any files you attached. Files also appear in the **Files** card, where you can view or download them.

Each file can be up to 10 MB. Supported types are JPG, PNG, GIF, and WebP images, MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV videos, PDFs, and Word and Excel documents.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If the work order came from a maintenance request, the person who submitted the request gets an email when you add a note.

## Delete a file

In the **Files** card, click the delete button on the file. Confirm with **Delete File**. The file is permanently removed from the work order.

## Add a link

Use links to point to external resources, such as a manual or a supplier page.

**1. Open the actions menu**

On the work order, open the more actions menu and click **Add Link**.

**2. Enter the link**

Paste the URL. Relyant fills in the title from the page, which you can change.

**3. Save**

Save the link. It appears in the **Resources** section of the work order.
