# Create a PM schedule

> Set up a new preventive maintenance schedule

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need permission to create preventive maintenance schedules. **Owners** and **Admins** have it by default.

Creating a schedule takes four steps: **Work Order Template**, **Schedule Configuration**, **Schedule Details**, and **Review**.

## Steps

**1. Go to preventive maintenance**

In the sidebar, under **Maintenance**, click **Preventive Maintenance**.

**2. Start a new schedule**

Click **Create PM Schedule**.

**3. Fill in the work order template**

This is what each generated work order will contain.

* **Work Order Title** — required, for example "HVAC Filter Replacement"
* **Description** — the work to be performed
* **Location** and **Asset** — where the work happens and what it's for (optional)
* Priority — **Low**, **Medium**, **High**, or **Urgent**. Defaults to **Medium**.
* **Category** — the type of work (optional)
* **Assignee** — the member who gets each work order (optional)
* Attachments — up to 5 files, such as a checklist or manual. Each generated work order gets a copy.

**4. Configure the schedule**

Choose the **Frequency**, interval, start, and time. See [Set recurrence](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/maintenance/preventive-maintenance/set-recurrence.md) for every option.

**5. Add schedule details**

* **Schedule Name** — required. Relyant suggests "PM: " followed by the work order title.
* **Schedule Description** — optional notes about the schedule
* **Schedule is active** — leave on to start creating work orders. Turn off to save the schedule without running it.

**6. Review and create**

Check the summary, including the **Next run** time. Then click **Create Schedule**.

## Edit, pause, or delete a schedule

Open the schedule from the list, or use the row menu. Then:

* Click **Edit** to change the template or schedule, then click **Save Changes**.
* Click **Pause** to stop creating work orders. Click **Activate** to start again.
* Click **Delete** to remove the schedule. You can also select several schedules in the list and delete them together.
