# Auto-generated work orders

> Understand how Relyant creates work orders from preventive maintenance schedules

When an active PM schedule reaches its scheduled time, Relyant creates a work order automatically. Relyant then calculates the next run time from the schedule's recurrence.

## What the work order contains

Each generated work order copies the schedule's work order template:

* Title and description
* Location and asset
* Priority and category
* Assignee
* Template attachments, copied into the work order's files

The work order also gets:

* **Open** status
* A **PM** badge next to its number in the **Work Orders** list
* A due date 7 days after it's created
* The assignee as the requester. If the schedule has no assignee, the person who created the schedule is the requester.

If the schedule has an assignee, they get an email that the work order was assigned to them.

## Each run is independent

Relyant creates a new work order at every scheduled time. It doesn't wait for the previous work order to be completed. If earlier work orders are still open, they stay open alongside the new one.

> [!TIP]
>
> To find overdue PM work orders, filter the **Work Orders** list by **Due Date** and select **Overdue**. PM work orders show the **PM** badge.

## View a schedule's work orders

**1. Open the schedule**

In the sidebar, under **Maintenance**, click **Preventive Maintenance**, then click the schedule.

**2. Open the history**

Click the **Execution History** tab. It lists each generated work order with its number, title, status, priority, and creation date.

The **Details** tab shows the **Next Run** and **Last Run** times.

## Pause a schedule

Pause a schedule to stop creating work orders, for example during a school holiday.

**1. Open the schedule**

Click the schedule in the **Preventive Maintenance** list.

**2. Pause**

Click **Pause**. The status changes to **Inactive**.

**3. Activate when ready**

Click **Activate**. Relyant calculates the next run time and starts creating work orders again.

You can also pause or activate a schedule from its row menu in the list. Pausing doesn't affect work orders that were already created.
