# Locations overview

> Organize your campus into buildings, floors, rooms, and other locations

Locations are the physical places in your organization. You assign assets, work orders, work requests, and bookings to them.

To open locations, in the sidebar, under **Resources**, click **Locations**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need read access to locations to open the **Locations** page. Creating, editing, and deleting locations each need their own permission. By default, members and requesters can view locations but not change them.

## How the hierarchy works

Every location can have a **Parent Location**. A location without a parent is a top-level location. You can nest locations as deep as you need, for example:

* **Main Campus** (Building)
  * **Level 1** (Floor)
    * **Room 101** (Room)
    * **Science Lab** (Room)

Relyant doesn't force a fixed structure. Any location can be the parent of any other location. Use the **Type** field to label what each location is.

## Location types

| Type | Example |
| - | - |
| **Building** | Science Block |
| **Facility** | Sports Complex |
| **Warehouse** | Central Storage |
| **Office** | Admin Office |
| **Floor** | Level 1 |
| **Room** | Room 101 |
| **Zone** | Car Park Zone A |
| **Other** | Anything else |

## Location statuses

Each location is **Active** or **Inactive**. New locations are **Active**.

## Find locations

On the **Locations** page, you can:

* Search by name, description, or address.
* Filter by **Type** and **Status**.
* Expand a parent location row to see its sub-locations.
* Click a location to open its details in a side panel. Click the arrow icon in the panel to open the full page.

## Location details

The location page has these tabs:

| Tab | Shows |
| - | - |
| **Details** | Basic information, address, capacity, area, total assets, parent location, and sub-locations |
| **Assets** | Assets assigned to this location |
| **Work Orders** | Work orders at this location |
| **Bookings** | A booking calendar for bookable locations |

From the location page, you can click **Create Work Order**, **Create Work Request**, or **Create Booking** for a bookable location. **Edit**, **Delete**, and **Generate QR** are in the actions menu.

## Location QR codes

Each location has a **Work Request QR** code. Anyone who scans it can report an issue at that location. In the location's row menu, click **View QR Code**, or open the location and click **Generate QR**. Then click **Print** or **Download QR Only**.

To print codes for several locations, select them on the **Locations** page and click **QR Codes** in the bulk action bar. See [QR portals](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/maintenance/qr-portals.md) for portals that cover many locations.

## Bookable locations

Turn on **Can be booked** for a location to let people reserve it through [location bookings](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/bookings/location-bookings/overview.md). To change several locations at once, select them, click **Set Bookable** in the bulk action bar, then click **Set as Bookable** or **Set as Non-Bookable**.

## Import and export locations

Click **Settings** at the top of the **Locations** page, then click:

* **Import Locations** to upload a CSV or Excel file.
* **Export Locations** to download your locations as CSV or Excel.
