# Add floors and rooms

> Add sub-locations, such as floors and rooms, under an existing location

> You need permission to create locations.

Floors, rooms, and other sub-locations are regular locations with a **Parent Location**. You add them the same way you [add a location](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/locations/add-a-location.md), then pick the parent.

## Add a floor

**1. Open Locations**

In the sidebar, under **Resources**, click **Locations**.

**2. Click Add Location**

Click **Add Location** at the top of the page.

**3. Enter the floor details**

Enter a **Location Name**, for example "Level 1", and set **Type** to **Floor**.

**4. Pick the parent**

In **Parent Location**, select the building the floor belongs to.

**5. Save**

Click **Create Location**. On the **Locations** page, expand the building's row to see the new floor.

## Add a room

Follow the same steps. Set **Type** to **Room** and select the floor in **Parent Location**.

For rooms that people can reserve:

* Enter a **Capacity** under **Additional Details**.
* Turn on **Can be booked** under **Booking Settings**.

Only bookable locations can be reserved through [location bookings](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/bookings/location-bookings/overview.md).
