# Reserve an asset

> Book a piece of equipment or another asset for a specific time

You need permission to create asset bookings. Only bookable assets appear in the asset list.

## Create a booking

**1. Open the booking page**

In the sidebar, under **Modules**, click **Asset Booking**, then click **New Booking**. You can also click **New Booking** on the asset bookings list, or **Create Booking** on a bookable asset's page.

**2. Check availability**

The **Calendar** view shows each bookable asset's bookings for one day. Use the arrows or **Today** to change the day, and **Search assets...** to find an asset. Switch to **Grid** to see assets as cards.

**3. Start the booking**

Do one of the following:

* In the **Calendar** view, drag across a free time slot for the asset.
* In the **Grid** view, click an asset.
* Click **Create Booking** at the top of the page.

The **Book an Asset** panel opens.

**4. Choose the asset and time**

Under **Select Asset**, search for and select an asset. Then set the **Date**, **Start Time**, and **End Time**. The **Availability preview** shows whether the slot is **Available**, has a **Conflict** with an approved booking, or **Overlaps pending** bookings.

**5. Enter the booking details**

* **Purpose** (required) — what you need the asset for.
* **Assignees (Optional)** — the people responsible for the booking. Requesters don't see this field.
* **Notes (Optional)** — anything else people should know.
* **Additional Information** — any custom fields your organization requires.

**6. Repeat the booking (optional)**

If you can approve asset bookings, you can turn on **Repeat this booking** to create a series. The options work the same way as for [recurring location bookings](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/bookings/location-bookings/recurring-bookings.md).

**7. Book the asset**

Click **Book Asset**. For a recurring booking, click **Create Series**.

## What happens next

* If **Requires Approval** is on in [asset booking settings](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/settings/asset-booking-settings.md), the booking is **Submitted** until someone approves it.
* If approval is off, or you have permission to approve asset bookings, the booking is **Approved** right away.
* Recurring series are always approved right away.

Relyant rejects a booking that overlaps an approved booking, falls outside the allowed days and hours, breaks the **Booking Window** or **Minimum Notice** rules, or falls inside a [buffer time](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/bookings/buffer-times.md). Roles listed under **Rules don't apply to** in asset booking settings skip the booking window, minimum notice, and buffer time rules.
