# Assign a location

> Link an asset to the location where it sits

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need permission to edit assets. The location must already exist. See [Add a location](https://docs.relyant.app/facilities/locations/add-a-location.md).

Each asset can have one location. You can pick any location in your organization, whether it's a building, a floor, a room, or another type. The asset then appears on that location's **Assets** tab.

## Assign one asset

**1. Open the asset form**

In the sidebar, under **Resources**, click **Assets**. Open the asset, then click **Edit** in the actions menu.

**2. Select the location**

Under **Location**, open **Assigned Location** and select a location.

**3. Save**

Click **Update Asset**.

To clear the location, click **Remove location** under the field, then save.

## Assign several assets at once

**1. Select the assets**

On the **Assets** page, select the checkboxes next to the assets.

**2. Assign the location**

In the bulk action bar, click **Assign Location**. Select a location, then confirm.

## Find assets by location

On the **Assets** page, use the **Location** filter. Choose **Unassigned** to find assets without a location.

You can also open a location and click its **Assets** tab to see every asset assigned to it.

## Notes

* When you create a work order from an asset page, the asset's location is filled in for you.
* If a location is deleted, its assets lose their location. The assets themselves are not deleted.
