# Check-in

> Check guests in at the door with a phone camera, a QR scanner, or a name search

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Required permission:** the **Check-in staff**, **Events coordinator**, or **Events manager** role checks guests in at every event. To let someone check in at one event only, add them as [check-in staff for that event](#add-check-in-staff-to-an-event). Check-in staff see the station and guest list only, not orders, edits, or messages.

## Open the check-in station

The station opens full screen, so it works well on a phone or tablet at the door.

* **From the event:** open the event and click **Check-in**. The station opens in a new tab.
* **Door staff:** if you can check guests in but can't see events, click **Check-in** in the Events sidebar, pick the event, and click **Open check-in**. Published events show here from the day they go on sale until a day after they end.

The header shows how many guests are in so far. Click **Back to the event** to return.

## Add check-in staff to an event

To let someone run the door at a single event without an Events role:

**1. Open the event**

On the event's **Overview** tab, find the **Check-in staff** card.

**2. Add people**

Click **Add check-in staff** and pick a member. They can scan tickets and check guests in at this event only.

**3. Share the link**

Click **Copy check-in link** and send it to them. It opens the station for this event.

Click the remove icon next to a name to take them off. People with a check-in role can already check in at every event, so you don't need to add them.

## Check a guest in

The station has two tabs: **Scan** and **Guests**. On **Scan**, choose how this device reads tickets. The choice is remembered on the device.

* **Camera** — the default. Point the camera at the guest's QR code. Click **Switch camera** to use the other camera.
* **QR scanner** — use a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that reads QR codes. Click **How to connect a QR scanner** for setup help.
* **Search** — type the code printed under the QR code, or a guest's name, and press Enter.

Each scan shows the result over the viewfinder, such as **Checked in**, **Already checked in**, **Ticket not found**, **This ticket is for another event**, or **This ticket was cancelled**, with the guest's name, ticket, and seat for reserved seating. Recent check-ins are listed under **Recent scans**, where you can click **Undo**.

## The guest list

On the **Guests** tab, choose **All guests**, **Going**, **Checked in**, or **Not checked in**, and search by name, email, order, or ticket code. Click a guest to see their ticket, order, who bought it, when they registered, and who checked them in. Click **Check in** or **Undo check-in**.

## Scan modes and re-entry

Click **Scan options** to choose how this station checks guests in. Other stations keep their own setting.

* **Express** checks the guest in as soon as you scan.
* **Standard** opens the guest's details first. Click **Check in** to confirm.

The default for new stations, **Allow re-entry**, and **Sound on scan** come from your [check-in settings](https://docs.relyant.app/events/settings.md#check-in). With re-entry on, a guest who comes back shows **Welcome back — re-entry**.

## Walk-ins

To admit someone without a ticket, click **Walk-in**, or search a name and click **Add as a walk-in**. Enter the **Name**, pick a **Ticket** type and the number of **People**, then click **Check in**. Free tickets are issued and checked in straight away, and show on the guest list. Tick **Let them in anyway — go over the event's limit** if the event is full.

## Working offline

If the connection drops, the station keeps checking tickets in on that device and shows **Offline** with the number of scans to sync. Scans sync when you're back online. If a ticket was already checked in at another station, you're told after syncing. Undo and walk-ins need a connection.
