# School calendar

> Set your school week and add holidays, breaks, and closures when attendance isn't taken

> **Required role:** **Owner** or **Admin** to change the school calendar. Teachers can view it.

The school calendar tells Relyant which days are school days. Attendance, reports, daily digests, and marking reminders all skip non-school days. Go to **Settings → School Calendar** to configure it.

## Set the school week

The **School Week** card shows the seven days of the week, **Sun** to **Sat**. Click a day to toggle it on or off as a school day. Changes save automatically, and you see **School week saved**.

> At least one day must stay selected. You can't turn off every day.

## Add holidays and closures

The **Holidays & Closures** card lists non-school days for one academic year at a time. Select a year first to see or add events.

**1. Pick an academic year**

In the **Holidays & Closures** card, choose a year from the year selector.

**2. Add an event**

Click **Add Event** (or **Add First Event** if the year has none yet).

**3. Fill in the details**

Enter a **Title** (for example, `Eid al-Fitr` or `Winter Break`), choose a **Type**, and pick a **Date Range**. Pick a single day for a one-day holiday. Add **Notes (optional)** for extra context.

**4. Save**

Click **Add Event**. The event appears in the list for that year.

### Event types

| Type | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **Holiday** | Public or religious holidays |
| **School Break** | Term breaks and longer vacations |
| **Closure** | Unplanned or one-off closures |

## Edit or remove an event

Open the menu on an event and click **Edit** to change it, or **Delete** to remove it. Removing an event doesn't change attendance records that already exist.

## How the calendar is used

A day counts as a school day when it falls on a selected weekday and isn't covered by a holiday, break, or closure. Relyant uses this to:

* Calculate attendance percentages from school days only
* Skip the daily absence digest and teacher marking reminders on non-school days
* Apply parent absence excusals only to the school days in the chosen date range
