# AI insights

> Design the template the AI uses to write student summaries, including sections, attention flags, and a radar chart

> **Required role:** **Owner** or **Admin**. Other roles see a message asking them to contact an administrator.

Each student profile has an **AI insights** card that summarizes the student's attendance patterns, behavior, and overall picture. Go to **Settings → AI Insights** to design how that summary is written. The template applies to every student in your organization.

## Build a template with AI

The quickest way to start is to let AI draft a template for you.

**1. Describe your school**

In the **Build with AI** card, describe your school and what matters to you. For example: a primary school focused on wellbeing, attendance, and early reading, with a warm, parent-friendly tone.

**2. Generate the draft**

Click **Generate template**. The AI fills in the guidance, sections, and chart for you.

**3. Review and save**

Edit anything you want to change, then click **Save template**.

## Template parts

| Part | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **Overall guidance** | The voice and rules for the whole summary. It's sent once, ahead of every section. Up to 1,200 characters. |
| **Sections** | Each section becomes one labelled block in the summary. Give each a title and instructions for what the AI should write. Up to 6 sections. |
| **Attention flags** | Shows short amber chips, such as "Monday absences", above the summary. |
| **Radar chart** | Plots 3 to 6 metrics for the student. |

Use the arrow buttons to move a section up or down, and the **X** button to remove it. Click **Add section** to add another. Every section needs both a title and instructions before you can save.

## Radar chart metrics

Turn on **Radar chart**, then select between three and six metrics. Values are computed from each student's real records and are never scored by AI.

| Metric | How it's calculated |
| - | - |
| **Attendance** | Present ÷ recorded days |
| **Punctuality** | On-time ÷ attended days |
| **Consistency** | How evenly absences are spread |
| **Behavior** | Resolved ÷ total incidents |
| **Recent (30d)** | Attendance over the last 30 days |
| **Engagement** | Positive shared notes on file |

## After you save

New summaries use the updated template. Existing summaries stay as they are. On a student profile, a summary made with an older template shows a notice that it predates your current insight template, with a **Regenerate** button.
