# Track with Barcode / QR

> Generate or scan barcodes and QR codes to quickly access asset records

<Note>
  **Required role:** **Admin** or **Manager** to generate codes. All members can scan codes.
</Note>

Relyant can generate a unique barcode or QR code for each asset. Print and attach the code to the physical item so staff can scan it to instantly pull up the asset's record.

## Generate a barcode or QR code

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the asset">
    In the left sidebar, click **Assets**, then click the asset you want to tag.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the Barcode tab">
    On the asset detail page, click the **Barcode** or **QR Code** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate the code">
    Click **Generate Barcode** or **Generate QR Code**. Relyant will create a unique code linked to this asset.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Print or download">
    Click **Print** to print the code directly, or **Download** to save it as an image. Attach the printed code to the physical asset.

## Scan a code

To scan an asset's barcode or QR code:

1. Open the Relyant mobile app or use the scan feature in the web app.
2. Point your device camera at the code.
3. The asset's detail page will open automatically.
